GILFORD YOUTH
2021/22

The ChillCart partnered with Gilford Youth in Craigavon in 2021/22, for a 12 week outreach project, working with over 20 young people around themes of intergenerational good relations and identity.

The project worked with two groups of young people aged between 9-12 and 13-17 years old, together with four artists and one Youth Engagement Officer on a weekly basis. Artistic mediums, such as virtual reality, street art, illustration, and animation, enabled youth work staff to facilitate conversations with the young people around topics of self-expression and shared community. This was a virtual ChillCart project because it took place in the groups own venue - the Gilford Community Club, and worked towards a family-focused celebratory exhibition as part of the Through Our Eyes programme.

WheelWorks partnered with Gilford Youth to support their programme Through Our Eyes, which started in October 2021 at the request of Gilford families, in order to provide a much-needed outlet for expression and a focus for youthful energy and creativity.

GILFORD YOUTH NOTED:

“We are incredibly proud of the young people taking part in the Through Our Eyes programme who have worked diligently, alongside local staff and volunteers, to make the programme work and ensure the funding has maximum impact. These are challenging times, but despite pessimism about Gilford young people, the Through Our Eyes project has successfully engaged them in purposeful activity, demonstrating an appetite for contributing to the community when given the opportunity.”
